Koboldtopia's changed hosting, so here are the new login details, fresh and shiny for the 1.3 update!

A New Dawn

We find ourselves in a new world. Wild, untamed. But not empty.

There are ruins here, the remnants of a sizeable city, but ancient and crumbled to the foundations. The villagers nearby refuse to speak of the place, keeping to their own simple way of life.

We will claim it for ourselves. We will rebuild, in our own fashion.

New update, new content, new map.

Given the differences between 1.1 and 1.2, it seems better to start fresh with a new map. Shown above is the site for New Spawnville, since interest was expressed in collaborative building projects and Old Spawnville was very built-up and pretty much complete. There are plenty of different biomes within easy reach, so it should be a pretty good hub to start from.

As before, if you've any constructions from the old map you especially want moved across then let me know once you've found somewhere to put them and I'll do what I can.

At your command.

While I do like the challenge of playing Minecraft in Survival mode, I will be the first to admit that there are aspects of the game that are... not entirely exciting, and which get in the way of the stuff that is exciting. Specifically, gathering the necessary materials to embark on big building projects. Quarrying cobblestone, farming trees, turning the wood to charcoal and the cobblestone to stone, the stone to stone bricks... the materials aren't rare, but gathering them is time-consuming, repetitive, and not really very thrilling.

On the other hand I'm loath to switch to Creative mode, as that removes the exciting challenge of gathering the rarer or more exotic materials - venturing into caves in search of redstone, gold and diamonds, braving the perils of the Nether in search of glowstone, blaze rods and ghast tears, and embarking on voyages of exploration by foot and boat. These are all adventures.

So! This in mind I've added a handful of custom commands which should take some of the grind out of things, while still leaving the more elusive materials as a prize for the bold:

  • /stoneplease - Gives you a stack of stone.
  • /sandplease - Gives you a stack of sand.
  • /pickplease - Gives you a stone pick.
  • /shovelplease - Gives you a stone shovel.

And as a reminder, there's also:

  • /zzz - Summons the dawn.

Use these powers for good!

A brave new world!

The new server is up and running with Minecraft 1.0! Everyone should already be on the whitelist, so dive in.

Soon...

One day to go until Minecraft is officially released. It's my intention to have Koboldtopia up and running as soon as possible after that. The map is ready to be uploaded to the new hosting, and Spawnville awaits the kobold invasion.

Inheritance.

Something has happened to the world. We are all that is left.

The server will be going live with a new custom map within the hour, aiming to start play around noon EST.

  • The map is predominantly oriented towards cooperative survival, with touches of adventure here and there.
  • The play area is restricted, but there is plenty to explore and discover.
  • If you wish to strike out and establish your own base of operations you are welcome to do so, but this is not without risk.

UPDATE: Due to a few issues with the map (since resolved) we're now aiming to start at around 8pm EST. Lots of exploring and discovering, so it'd be good to have as many people take part in that as we can.

The kobolds have spoken.

From feedback on Twitter it's apparent that a Survival map would be the most popular option. As you wish.

I have something in mind that should be pretty terrifying fun and keep everyone challenged until the official release. I've almost finished building the custom map, and once that's done I'll push it onto the server. Watch this space...
